Popular Delusions & the Madness of Cows
Ramsay Midwood
Farmwire

For an unforgettable audio adventure, grab some headphones and slap on Midwood’s sophomore effort.

Recorded completely in analog on 2-inch tape, the studio follow-up to 2000’s “Shoot Out at the OK Chinese Restaurant” is some of the most arresting music ever recorded.

Turn it up, but not too loud. The slight tape hiss means no noise reduction masking the subtleties of Midwood’s and Randy Weeks’ guitars, Kip Boardman’s bass and Don Heffington’s drums. Occasionally added to this core are mandolin, banjo, accordion and even Jew’s harp, lending just the right amount of country to this set of funky rustic music.

Imagine “Boomer’s Story”-era Ry Cooder – songs like the traditional “Good Morning Mr. Railroad Man” or Skip James’ “Cherry Ball Blues” – only with more twang, and stream-of-consciousness lyrics spinning tales of offbeat characters.
