Ruf
Lister, an outstanding blues-rock performer already popular in Europe, is introducing himself to America with his second of three studio albums for Ruf.
Actually a 2001 reworking of its predecessor (four songs overlap), this was to be the Brit’s U.S. calling card but is just now making it to the States.
It’s easy to see the reason for the guitarist/singer/songwriter’s popularity: His playing is accomplished without being flashy; his voice is smooth, not rough; and the tunes strike the perfect balance between hardcore blues and FM-friendly rock.
Nonreprised tracks include solo acoustic covers of Tony Joe White’s “As the Crow Flies” and Jimi Hendrix’s “Little Wing”; and the instrumental “In the Beginning.”
