Mighty Rearranger
Robert Plant and the Strange Sensation
Sanctuary

Most people probably didn’t realize it at the time, but Led Zeppelin had that Middle Eastern thing going throughout their music, with “Kashmir” being the most obvious example.

Then, when Plant reunited with Jimmy Page in 1994 for the “No Quarter” MTV special, they went all out and featured African, Egyptian, Moroccan and Indian performers.

Now, with his new band, the Strange Sensation, he continues his world-music indulgences thanks mostly to his association with guitarist Justin Adams. Along with the strong presence of Moroccan and Malian ingredients, the musical stew also includes the psychedelic ’60s flavorings that began with his Priory of Brion hometown side project and surfaced officially on his last studio effort, 2002’s “Dreamland.” As well, touches of techno and electronica abound.

Plant offers his mission statement in the lyrics to “Tin Pan Valley”:

My peers may flirt with cabaret
Some fake the rebel yell
Me, I’m moving up to higher ground
I must escape their hell

You tell ’em, Robert.
