Duke Robillard's World Full of Blues
Duke Robillard
Stony Plain

From Roomful of Blues to “World Full of Blues,” Robillard has consistently delivered the goods, whether as a member of the aforementioned collective or the Fabulous Thunderbirds, a solo artist or hired guitar slinger for such notables as Bob Dylan and Tom Waits.

Besting last year’s Grammy-nominated “Guitar Groove-a-Rama” (a single-disc, vintage-guitar showcase covering multiple styles), Robillard pulls out all the stops for this double disc and takes the listener on a tour of the world of the blues.

Jump blues is the first stop. Next up is a ’lectrified-Delta rendition of Bob Dylan’s “Everything Is Broken.” Then some late-period T-Bone Walker swing-funk. A James Cotton instrumental. A Robillard original written for guest harp blower “Sugar” Ray Norcia. A Booker T Jones number. And on and on. Get the picture?

Highlights include “Stoned,” a guitar duet with Paul Kolesnikow; Waits’ “Low Side of the Road,” including a small turn by Robillard on saz; the Billy Butler tribute “Bounce for Billy”; and the Memphis Slim instrumental “Steppin’ Out.”
