Living With War
Neil Young
Reprise

When Young recorded his 1972 non-album side “War Song” with Graham Nash, he probably had no idea that 34 years later he’d record an entire anti-war album.

He’s said he got tired of waiting for a singer-songwriter from the younger generation to oppose the war in Iraq. Now that he’s broken the ice, hopefully we’ll see that generation exercise its freedom of speech.

In the meantime, there’s “LWW” with its take no prisoners approach, setting the scene of Young’s war on war before building to the mid-album call to arms, “Let’s Impeach the President.”

Young has tapped into the public’s pulse with songs like “Families,”  “Shock and Awe,” “Looking for a Leader” and “Flags of Freedom.”

And the 100-voice choir that sings throughout, as well as the occasional trumpet, complements the storming power trio as it marches through some of Young’s most sentimental melodies since 1994’s “Sleeps With Angels.”
