North Mississippi Allstars

The North Mississippi Allstars have three fine albums of deliciously adulterated blues to their credit (four if you count their one-off 2001 project with John Medeski and Robert Randolph, an instrumental blues-gospel group called The Word). But those are all studio albums, and anybody lucky enough to score one of their shows online from sites such as bt.etree.org knows that these guys are even better live.
This is the first official live NMAS album, recorded at Bonnaroo 2004 in Manchester, Tennessee. Brothers Luther and Cody Dickinson (slide guitar and drums, respectively) and Chris Chew (bass) have always played like every song is to beat the devil. The Dickinsons’ dad, legendary producer Jim, remixed the show as well as guesting on keyboards and B3 organ.
And putting the “revue” in Hill Country Revue are R.L. Burnside and descendants Duwayne, Cody and Garry; Widespread Panic keyboardist JoJo Hermann; the Rising Star Fife & Drum Band; and Chris Robinson.
